10,000 BC

One thing kept nudging me on and on while I watched 10,000 BC. The film is not faithful to history and is probably one of the most historically inaccurate movies that I have ever seen. Director Roland Emmerich has, no doubt, done a splendid job when it comes to presenting this film stylishly with technical genius, but much substance is lost in the effort to look pleasing.

The story is of an epic love tale that involves many trials and tribulations of a tribe and in the end, the triumph of love over evil. It is quite a universal theme that Emmerich explores here and you will find that the common themes of loyalty, courage and communal bonding are also dealt with.

The story kicks off, as the Ice Age is about to come to an end and a tribe of people known as the Yagahl people live through their sufferings as they try to survive this climatic disaster. Camila Belle, beautiful and charming, finely plays the role of Evolet- a young, blue-eyed girl. This young lady is found to have some powers that will help save the tribe from utter doom. D’Leh, played by Steven Strait, is in love with Evolet and his performance is quite noteworthy. After many years of strife and suffering, D’Leh gets together with his love, Evolet. However things don’t continue to go well as some strange men arrive on horseback and kidnap many of the Yagahl people, including Evolet.

D’Leh, along with his father, sets out on a mission to rescue their stolen people. It is here that the film picks up pace and some wonderful scenes unfold as father and son brave through the dangers they face on the way.

The film is visually very appealing and many intricately worked on scenes made me hold my breath.
