‘9 ½ Weeks’

The movie ‘9 ½ weeks’ was directed by Adrian Lyne, who also directed hits such as ‘Indecent Proposal’, ‘Flashdance’, ‘Mr. Smith’, and ‘Unfaithful’. The movie hit theatres in February of 1986. Mickey Rourke and Kim Basinger star in the movie as John and Elizabeth, respectively.

‘9 ½ Weeks’ is a passionate drama that sees the characters played by Rourke and Basinger get wrapped up in an erotic love affair. The two hardly know each other, but before long they are consumed by one another.

A lot of mystery surrounds the new relationship as John seems to want no involvement in Elizabeth’s life. His only interest seems to be in the sexual relationship that he shares with Elizabeth. Throughout the movie, John seems to control Elizabeth to the point where she is almost completely dependent on him for no apparent reason.

There are some interesting things to notice while watching ‘9 ½ weeks’. Whenever Elizabeth is in the presence of John, she only wears clothes that are gray or black.

The movie was nominated for three Razzie Awards in 1987. Kim Basinger earned a nomination for Worst Actress. ‘9 ½ weeks’ was also nominated for Worst Original Song and Worst Screenplay. The characters of John and Elizabeth are frequently regarded as one of the sexiest couples to ever hit the big screen.

While the movie certainly has its critics, others will find themselves completely caught up in the drama. Most will feel that the movie ends well.
